Understanding how a person thinks, functions and experiences the world.

Sameenah Rawoot is an HPCSA-registered clinical neuropsychologist offering assessment, cognitive profiling, diagnostic clarification and rehabilitation at Healthfort Clinics Milnerton, for adults and children alike.

The approach

Cognitive, emotional and behavioural difficulties rarely exist in isolation.

Assessment here is grounded in evidence-based method and a holistic understanding of each individual, weighing neurological health, psychological wellbeing, medical history and everyday functioning together.

The aim is not simply to identify areas of difficulty. It is to develop a clear understanding of how a person functions, and of how that understanding can guide appropriate care and support.

What to expect

The assessment pathway

Three consultations, each one hour long. Fees are set out in full here.

  1. 01

    Initial consultation

    One hour

A conversation, not a test. We establish your history, the difficulties you are experiencing and what you need the assessment to answer. This determines which measures are appropriate for you.

  2. 02

    Neuropsychological assessment

    One or more sessions

A structured battery of standardised tasks measuring memory, attention, language, executive function and visual-spatial skills. A two hour double session is available where fewer visits would suit you better.

  3. 03

    Feedback and recommendations

    One hour

Findings are set out in plain language, with specific recommendations for daily life, for work or study, and for the people supporting you.

What is measured

Six areas of cognition

An assessment goes beyond asking whether someone has a good or a poor memory.

Memory

Learning new information, recalling it later, and recognising what has been encountered before.

Attention and concentration

Sustaining focus, filtering distraction, and holding information in mind while working with it.

Language

Finding words, understanding what is said, reading, writing and expressing yourself clearly.

Executive function

Planning, problem-solving, decision-making, flexibility and self-monitoring.

Visual-spatial skills

Perceiving, judging and organising visual information and spatial relationships.

Processing speed

How quickly and efficiently information is taken in, worked through and acted upon.

How each one shows up day to day

Try it yourself

Cognition is easier felt than explained

The Stroop task is among the most widely used measures in clinical neuropsychology. It takes approximately twenty seconds.

A word will appear in coloured ink. Identify the colour of the ink, not the word.
